Stensbæk Plantage
Visit Klimperne peat bogs
Close to Gram Castle Town lies Stensbæk Plantation. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a famous natural feature, Klimperne – raised peat bogs. They appear as flat-topped hills 4-5 metres above the heathlands. The peat bogs are ancient. They developed over a period of 16,000 years. Raised peat bogs are a rare natural feature seen only in very few locations across the globe.
There are three signposted hiking routes in the plantation (between 3.5 and 5.5 km). The green route takes hikers past Klimperne, while the red route leads you to Ballum Bjerg and the blue route takes you out to Patrol Path, which marks the former Danish-German border in the period from 1865 until 1920.
